Assessment in Higher Education
Dutch approaches and perspectives
The Dutch edition of this book is widely used in the professional development of teachers in higher education. However, due to the increasing internationalisation of universities, a large proportion of teacher training programmes is now offered in English. To accommodate these programmes, this English translation of Toetsen in het hoger onderwijs is now available.
Contents
Assessment in Higher Education provides a comprehensive overview of various assessment and evaluation methods in higher education. It also explores different aspects of assessment and the assessment process, such as the ethics of assessment and the legal protection of students. The book offers numerous practical guidelines and many real-life examples, making it a practical and inspiring resource for programme coordinators, examination boards, assessment committees, and (prospective) teachers.
Fifth edition
This fifth edition includes new chapters on topics such as: programme-based assessment, assessment using e-portfolios, and teacher assessment competence. The existing chapters have either been rewritten or (significantly) updated to reflect current developments in education. Throughout the chapters, a strong emphasis is placed on the teacher’s role in the assessment process.
For whom
This book provides tools for making decisions when designing assessments, including developing and implementing assessment policies, creating an assessment programme, and constructing assessments. As such, the book is suitable for the professional development of teachers, for example as part of the Basic Qualification in Assessment and Senior Qualification in Assessment, and as instructional material in teacher training programmes. Because the chapters in the book address the topics from a broad perspective, the book is also relevant for teachers in secondary vocational education.
